Teaching
Two decades of teaching and research, carried alongside clinical practice.
Teaching and Scholarship
Steve Tutty has spent more than 20 years teaching, researching and publishing in clinical psychology, in several US states, alongside his clinical practice.
His experience includes collegiate instruction as well as clinical work, and he has carried both through his career rather than choosing one. As he puts it on his own site, a long stretch of hands-on counseling came first, and it shaped his grounded, practical approach to assessment.
National Health Scholar
Steve Tutty is a National Health Scholar. His practice describes his work in that role as helping to build inclusive psychological services and widen access to high-quality care, well before that goal was widely valued.
Scientific-Practitioner
He describes himself as a Scientific-Practitioner. The scientist-practitioner idea is a long-standing model in clinical psychology training: a psychologist should be able both to use research and to produce it, and clinical decisions should be grounded in evidence. In his evaluations, that means choosing validated tests and making recommendations that research supports.
What he brings to the classroom and the clinic

- Two research areas with direct clinical use: childhood ADHD and adult depression
- Early work on telephone-delivered therapy, begun in 2000
- 30+ years of clinical and forensic practice to draw on for examples
