Selected Papers
Two of the five papers, in date order. The full list, with a short note on each, is on the publications page.
- Enhancing behavioral and social skill functioning in children newly diagnosed with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder in a pediatric settingTutty S, Gephart H, Wurzbacher K. Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. 2003;24(1):51–57.
A study, run inside a pediatric practice, of a program to build behavioral and social skills in children who had just been diagnosed with ADHD. The aim was to improve how these children function day to day, not only to confirm the diagnosis.
- Telephone psychotherapy and telephone care management for primary care patients starting antidepressant treatment: a randomized controlled trialSimon GE, Ludman EJ, Tutty S, Operskalski B, Von Korff M. JAMA. 2004;292(8):935–942.
A randomized controlled trial with adults who were starting antidepressant medication through their primary care doctor. It tested two kinds of support delivered by phone: care management calls that follow up on treatment, and structured psychotherapy sessions held over the telephone.

Why the Research Matters for Patients
Steve Tutty's clinical career started before his research did: ten years counseling children with ADHD and autism and adults with depression. The questions he later studied came out of that work. What helps a child after an ADHD diagnosis, besides a prescription? Can therapy reach adults with depression who will never sit in a therapist's office?
That habit of asking what the evidence actually shows carries into his evaluations today. When he recommends a classroom accommodation or a treatment after a brain injury, the aim is to point to approaches that have been tested. He now sees clients in Manhattan through Aspyre Psychology.
